A dream deferred is never denied.
Maybe you’ve seen the pictures… maybe you’ve been wondering when I was finally going to blog about it. Well, here we are.
It has officially been four months since I became a member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. 💗💚
And honestly? I still don’t know if I have the words.
I joined at the graduate/alumnae level, but I needed this experience.
I entered this sisterhood alongside women who are already so beautifully established in their own right. Women with doctorates. Women who are nurses, counselors, professors, psychologists, Chemists. Social workers. Business owners. Entrepreneurs. Veterans. Educators. And so many other accomplished women that I could probably keep going and still leave someone out.
And these women are my line sisters.
The experience has been more than I ever imagined.
In just four months, I’ve had opportunities I never could have predicted. I even became an Ivy Box Insider, which is something I’m incredibly excited about.
But beyond the opportunities, the pictures, the paraphernalia, and everything that comes with membership, there is something much deeper that I’ve gained: sisterhood.
And I honestly can’t explain it to you.
It isn’t simply having another sister. It isn’t an ordinary friendship. It’s something you experience. Something you grow into. Something that reveals itself through the women you meet, the relationships you build, and the woman you continue to become.
The only thing I can say is this:
You have to know who you are before entering it.
So, to the woman who may be standing where I once stood… wondering if her time has passed, wondering if she missed her opportunity, or wondering if the dream she once had is still possible:
A dream deferred is never denied.
Sometimes the timing has to catch up with the woman you are becoming.
Four months in, and I’m grateful I waited for this experience.
Here are a few images of how these last four months have been going. 💗💚
Until we meet again.
